Herds

Had good a good night of Herds tonight. 6th graders did a great job and learned about living out Roman 12:1-2. Check out the website www.iamsecond.com and watch the football player named Bradie. We played a new game called Ping Pong Dodgeball. I think they enjoyed it.

Another day of basketball practice done. We looked a bit less rusty today. Starting to move again and get back in shape. Still not real sharp but they are working hard. Big game next Monday with Union at home.

Regular Herd had an unusually small crowd tonight. Some kids said there is a big semester test in science tomorrow people were studying for. Those that came had a great time. We learned about John chapter 6. Right after Jesus feeds the 5000 he gives a speech in the synagogue in Capernaum. He tells the people that He is the bread of life and that they need to eat His flesh. This alarms a lot of His followers and they end up leaving Him. It is a very interesting passage and the kids did very well to listen to the teaching on it. Then we broke out the wrestling mat and had a few matches. It was a lot of excitement. The picture included is from a staring contest. Each week we have a Boys vrs Girls event to see which gender will dominate the week. Boys rule this week!!!

I rink so...

Thanks to Cameron, Connor, and his dad, the ice rink is on its way to being ready.  Nothing is ever easy.  The rink sits on uneven ground so one end has to be about a foot deep while the other is only about 4 inches.  The other big project over the break has been painting.  Some young ladies, Connor, and I did a couple days worth of painting.  The color combinations are pretty interesting.  Tomorrow morning we will be shampooing the carpets thanks to Leon!  We just installed the carpet this summer and it is already in dire need of cleaning.  What a privilege to have so many kids coming through our ministry that our new carpet is worn out already!  Basketball also starts back up in the middle school!  Hope the boys have have stayed in shape over break or it will be a long pracitce tomorrow.

Haven't done this in a while?

Today we celebrated New Year's with my brother Seth and his family.  The kidney stone scare kept us away from going to Chicago to see DePaul play #1 Syracuse.  Macy and I had a great time ice skating at Coralville mall.  She discovered the novelty store Claire's, good bye college fund.  It was interesting to have my 4 kids and Seth's son out in public all together.  Grandma Pam was very helpful in herding our brood.  Got home and quickly lost interest in the Cowboys game so I was sitting in bed, and it occurred to me that I haven't blogged in about a year and a half.  There is an appear for everything so here I am!  Hopefully a more constant presence from now on.  God bless!

School's About to Start...

I'm here late at the Student Connection trying to get ready for the school year. My wife is at home hoping to go into labor at any minute. She is to the safe for baby and uncomfortable for mommy stage of pregnancy. This is uncharted territory for us as our longest term baby was 36 weeks. We've reached the promised land of 37 weeks. The Lord has provided for us again. It has been our prayer from when we found out we were expecting that we would reach this landmark. Who knows what the Lord has in store for us next.

Summer has been very busy as I'm sure it's been for all or none of you who actually read this. It's hard to get anything done when I'm always wondering if that call or shout will be coming that it's time to hit the hospital. Anticipation is a blessed thing I just wish we knew when it would be it would make planning a lot easier. There are many times we experience that in our Christian lives too.

It is our hope that we can provide hope in the Gospel to young people again this school year and learn a thing or two about the Bible along the way. God bless the rest of your summers.
