Enjoying some beautiful weather tonight at the children's home. We had a great time worshipping at Fraternidad church. Had communion and enjoyed fellowship with some of the Hanken's and McCauleys afterward. Guatemala knows how to do Pizza Hut and Jodi and Jeff know how to do dessert which was excellent. Then I had the esteemed pleasure of sleeping through the Master's in their easy chair. Tomorrow our work begins and I'm sure that I'll be sore from a little basketball and my first attempt at goaltending in futbol. Hope everyone is doing well.
God bless,
adam

Leavin' on a jetplane
Hello and goodbye to any or all of you that actually read this. A group of 11 and I leave for Guatemala tomorrow and we'll return, God-willing, on the 17th. We have some great work ahead of us as we tear down and repair a home, do some electrical work, and computer work at the children's home.
There's something about going to another country away from your family that makes you consider the idea of how you treat them. Maybe I'm the only crazy one, but I've had the thought of, "what if this is the last time I see them." I know and pray that that is an unlikely scenario, but it makes you take a moment and reflect on how you will be remembered when you're gone. For me it makes me want to be kinder, gentler, and more loving. I would challenge you and myself to treat your family every day as though it was the last time you were going to see them so noone's last memory of you is bad.
Anyway, if you wanted morbity you could have just watched the news and not read this. I am excited to go, but am fighting sadness at the idea of missing my family. I also pretty much hate flying so that makes me somewhat anxious which is another emotion I will fight with God's word. The older I get the worse I am about flying. Not sure why that is. Any psychologists out there can clue me in.
Hope to see you all soon and many blessings to you and your families. If you want to help Annie with our kids while I'm gone call 3195047986. God bless each of you!!!

The Big Egg Hunt at Student Connection!

We celebrated Good Friday in style with the first annual Student Connection Preschool Egg Hunt. First the little ones had a craft time and decorated paper bags for their eggs. Then we shared the Easter story with the young people so they could know what we were celebrating. They were very smart and had great answers to my questions.
Finally the big hunt began. The Lord blessed us with a dry morning. The air was warm and each kid got to fill his/her sack with candy and toy laden eggs. There were a lot of smiles and laughter. It was a fun time of fellowship for the many mommy's and a few brave dads.
God is good and it is fun to celebrate the Good News of Christ's resurrection in light of the fact that we by just believing in Him get to receive resurrection from the dead also. Thanks to Annie's hard work and planning we all had a great time and hopefully some little ones were able to hear the Gospel, maybe for the first time.

In Case Anyone Cares!
Hello and welcome to the first post in a long time. I'm sure everyone has just been filled with sorrow that I haven't been writing. As you all know this is a busy time of year and youth directors are not immune to the shuffle. We spent Christmas at my Grandmother's house in Morning Sun, Iowa. It was delightful as always to be treated like a king and eat like there won't be another meal in the rest of the year.
Our little Josie had her tonsils out on December 12th. Anyone who's little one has had a similar experience knows what an ordeal that is. She did well the first day and since then she's been very whiny and has grown very accustomed to being waited on hand and foot. It will be a difficult transition for her back into paupery when she's done healing. Finally, today she didn't need pain medicine for most of the day. Praise the Lord that she is improving.
I will be departing from Chicago on Tuesday the 29th headed to Guatemala. I am very excited to see my good friends the McCauley's and Hanken's. It will definitely be different not to be around my family for 10 days. Hopefully I can get my SKYPE set up so I can see them a couple of times through the week.
With my trip I hope to gain an idea of what mission opportunities there are down in Guatemala. I hope that in the near future we will be able to take a small group of young people down there to visit and to minister to the people there. This trip will give me a chance to see what kind of work is available for us to do in Jesus' name while we're down. It will also give me an opportunity to thaw out from all of the winter weather we have been dealing with here. Hopefully my plane is able to depart normally. Please pray for me a safe and profitable journey.
With that I'll close my first update in a while. Thank you all for your support and prayers this year. I look forward to serving the youth of A-P again in 2010. God bless!
